It’s easy and free to check your car seat safety.
Car Seat Safety Checks
Car seat safety check appointments provide an opportunity for a parent or caregiver to bring their car seat along with their vehicle to meet with a car seat technician who will review installation, use, and if necessary, guide the caregiver through any needed corrections.
During these appointments, the technician will provide education, answer any questions the caregiver may have, discuss next steps for the child such as when to move to the next type of seat, and make sure the caregiver feels comfortable installing their car seat independently. The technician and caregiver will ensure that the correct seat is being used for the child’s weight, height, and age. Car seat checks will be scheduled by appointment, available the first Thursday of each month (unless it’s a holiday or Outreach Community Health Centers is closed). Appointments will be scheduled for 30 minutes.
For caregivers attending car seat checks:
When arriving for your scheduled car seat check appointment, please check in with front desk staff inside the MCW Family Medicine Residency Clinic located in the lower level of the Outreach Community Health Centers building at 220 W Capitol Drive, Milwaukee WI 53212. A car seat technician will meet you in the lobby and direct you where to park your vehicle in order to begin the car seat check appointment.
If you would like to speak to a technician directly, contact Carly Severson at cseverson@mcw.edu or by calling office number (414) 727-6315 ext 2402. Email is preferred.

Proper car seat safety is essential to protect children while traveling. Use age- and size-appropriate car seats or booster seats, install them according to the manufacturer’s instructions, and ensure they meet current safety standards. Always place children under 13 in the back seat, and keep infants rear-facing until at least age two or until they exceed the seat’s height and weight limits. Regularly check for recalls and adjust straps to fit snugly. Safe rides start with the right car seat setup.
